Week of 9 October:
HOMEWORK (Due Tuesday, 17 October)
a. I am studying provisioning rates of male and female robins. At each of ten nests, I record the rate (visits/hr) at which the male and the female feed young. Do the sexes differ in provisioning rate? Here are the data (male rate, female rate) from each nest. (7, 9) (10, 10) (11, 14) (7, 6) (5, 8) (13, 14) (12, 12) (8, 13) (9, 10) (5, 7)
DON'T BOTHER CHECKING ASSUMPTIONS FOR THESE:
b. I am studying pine beetles. I randomly select three trees (A, B, C) and two cones from each tree (1 and 2). I collect three beetles from each cone and measure mass in mg. Quantify the cources of variation in mass. (A1: 46, 34, 38; A2: 28, 31, 20; B1: 37, 49, 26; B2: 28, 31, 25; C1: 40, 41, 51; C2: 34, 39, 29).
