This page describes GSEN's agenda and some of the environmental issues on campus in which GSEN is particularly active at the moment. If you want to work with GSEN, join one of our working committees.

 AGENDA

GSEN members are working to produce an environmental agenda for GSU that includes specific, achievable short-term and long-term goals. Important to this agenda is the development of cost-effective recommendations for faculty, staff, students, and the administration to consider. Our long-term goals are:

1. Identify and delineate important remaining wildlife habitat on campus and develop specific plans to protect these sites.

2. Coordinate public awareness of campus environmental issues such as protecting greenspace, developing a greenway, recycling, water conservation, use of native plants in campus landscaping, and reduced dependence on automobiles. Demonstrate that a healthy natural environment yields economic and aesthetic benefits.

3. Facilitate the creation of an interdisciplinary minor and concentration in environmental studies and contribute to development of that curriculum.

4. Actively promote environmentally sound campus development through strong and helpful relationships with GSU's physical plant, the Campus Physical Planning Committee, the Faculty Senate, the Strategic Planning Council, students (SAGE), alumni, and the Board of Regents.

 CURRENT ACTIVITIES

GSEN is currently involved in a campus-wide discussion on green buildings and environmentally sound practices. We are committed to working constructively with the GSU administration to effect positive change. Currnet efforts include expansion of recycling and identification and protection of natural areas on campus.
