I welcome individuals interested in joining our research group
to contact me by email, telephone or mail. I usually have openings in the
fall and spring semesters for one or more students. Generally, I have more
applicants than I can take on, so here are some things you can do to increase
your chance of success.
- Read over my Research Pages and
read some papers published by our group
- Look over the Biology
Department web pages, the Entrance
Requirements (go to the Grad Information on the drop down list) and
the Graduate School Information
- Contact me early and send a resume with email and phone numbers of
references, GRE scores, GPA and statement of research interest (all things
you will need to apply) and a list of relevant courses (Biology, Chemistry,
Math, Physics, Writing) or a copy of your transcripts (does not have to
be official for me).
- GRE Verbal >450, Quantitative >500, GPA > 2.8 required
- You will be more competitive with Verbal > 500 and GPA > 3.0
- Previous Research Experience will help a great deal
- If you have been a co-author on a publication, please send me the paper
- Contact my past and current graduate
students for information on our work, Georgia Southern, Statesboro,
etc.
- Be sure to submit your application EARLY (by February for fall admission;
by August for spring admission)
- Be sure to apply for a Graduate Assistantship (Teaching Assistant
position -- these are competitive and you must apply early to have the
best chance).
- The forms for applying and for an assistantship can be found on the
Graduate Pages off the Biology Homepage and at the Graduate School website
-- the process is entirely done online (see links above).
- I am the current Graduate Director in Biology, so keep me informed
of your progress in the application process.
